Venipuncture, also known as phlebotomy, is the process of drawing blood from a vein using a needle. Natera, relies on venipuncture for obtaining blood samples for various genetic and prenatal tests.

Natera’s Use of Venipuncture

Panorama™: requires a blood draw (venipuncture) from the pregnant person to analyze fetal DNA in the blood.
Horizon Advanced Carrier Screening: blood samples obtained through venipuncture for their Horizon advanced carrier screening, which assesses the risk of certain genetic conditions.
Signatera™:uses blood draws for its Signatera™ test, which is designed to detect and monitor cancer recurrence.
Other Tests: Natera offers various other tests, including those for oncology, organ health, and more, that also may require blood samples obtained through venipuncture.

Venipuncture Procedures

Standard Practice
Natera uses standard phlebotomy practices for venipuncture, ensuring the safety and accuracy of blood sample collection.
Mobile Phlebotomy
Natera also provides Mobile Phlebotomy services, offering convenient and accessible blood draws at the patient’s home or other locations.
Sample Collection Instructions
Natera provides specific instructions for sample collection, including the type of tubes to use (e.g., lavender-top K2 EDTA tubes) and proper handling procedures.

CPT Codes could be 36415CP or 36415AA

If the claim is submitted to an insurance, patients will receive a separate EOB for the cost of venipuncture.
